I am delighted to announce that my new essay on Hedda Gabler has been published:  Moi, Toril. “Hedda’s Silences: Beauty and Despair in Hedda Gabler.” Modern Drama 56, no. 4 (2013): 434-456. For copyright reasons I can’t put up a pdf yet. But anyone with access to Modern Drama through a library should be able to find it.
In November, I published an essay on Vigdis Hjorth’s new collection of essays, Fryd og fare (“Danger and Delight”) in Morgenbladet. In December, I published an essay on Ibsen’s late style, exemplified by a reading of When We Dead Awaken, in the same newspaper. Note that some links to Morgenbladet remain behind a paywall for some time after publication.
I will lecture on “Ibsen’s Late Style” at Litteraturhuset in Oslo on Sunday November 3, at 15:00. I see from the program that I’ll be speaking just before Dag Solstad discusses his new novel. I am really looking forward to hearing him! Also, my talk is a Norwegian version of a brand new paper I have written on Ibsen’s last four plays, which I don’t write much about in my book on Ibsen, Henrik Ibsen and the Birth of Modernism (Norwegian translation: Ibsens modernisme).
